Restaurant Magazine Publish my ‘letter’

My Letter in Restaurant Magazine Bit of a silly one this. The other day I popped in to William Henry Smith’s at Victoria station for my weekly copy of Restaurant Magazine, alas none was to be found! I sent a photo to the mag registering my frustration, and they’ve printed it, bless. Like my other fave, the British Journal of Photography, Restaurant Magazine is technically a trade publication, but one I love despite not working in or owning a restaurant. As the subhead says, it’s ‘for the professional and the passionate’. It’s not soft-focus lifestyle. It’s honesty, it looks at the business of food, It’s… meaty. They often have articles and tips that the home chef can use as well as in-depth reviews of products. (the best black pudding or tomato sauce anyone?)

In an issue before Christmas there was an excellent feature of knives and the contrast between western and Japanese ones. (it’s all in the angle of the blade). They’ve also done features on plating up the same meal of different styles of plate and bowl, and how it changes the presentation and composition. Stuff like this I love. Other features that have caught my eye are an article of podcasting for your restaurant, and even taking it into second life. The departure of Joe Warwick as Editor and the appointment of Paul Wootton appeared on the surface to be a smooth transition of power.

Bravo to them! However to take their advice and get a subscription might prove tricky when I’m on ‘the road’. I’ll try and pick it up where ever I can.
